Fire Rescue Victoria and Country Fire Authority (CFA) crews were called to responded to a fire reported at a shop on Mercer Street in Geelong at 2:12 am this morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames emanating from the Jaycar Electronics structure.

Equipped with breathing apparatus, they skillfully battled the fire, successfully extinguishing it by 4:00 am.

The situation was brought under control during the early morning hours.

As a precautionary measure, residents from a nearby building were evacuated but were later permitted to return once the scene was deemed safe.

Emergency crews remained on-site for an extended period, ensuring smoke clearance and overall safety.

Alain Sandler, the Marking Manager of Jaycar Electronics Group, shared the shocking and disheartening news, stating that they were alerted to the incident via email upon waking up this morning.

Sandler mentioned that the FRV (Fire Rescue Victoria) investigators would collaborate with the company in conducting a thorough investigation.

Additionally, he expressed the company’s commitment to finding a suitable location for another Jaycar Electronics store in Geelong, emphasizing their significant role in the local community.
