Around 10:45 last night, fire crews were called to a tree fire at Austin Park near the intersection of Eastern Beach Road and Bellerine Street in Geelong.
The fire had reportedly been deliberately lit.
Shortly after extinguishing the blaze, crews were alerted to another tree fire outside a property further along Eastern Beach Road.
Emergency responders quickly brought the second fire under control, but additional calls began coming in as more fires were ignited, leading towards the Eastern Gardens.
Police were also dispatched to investigate and apprehend the person responsible for the series of arson attacks.
A 41-year-old man of no fixed place of abode was arrested inside a garden area nearby and charged with light fire in an open area on a total fire ban day.
He was bailed to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on February 6th.
