Detectives have charged a man in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Arson and Explosives Squad.

The 33-year-old man was apprehended on Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD shortly after midday on Wednesday, June 19.

Officers searched the man’s vehicle, discovering a firearm and a quantity of drugs.

With assistance from the Bomb Response Unit, detectives executed a search warrant at a North Shore address later that afternoon.

During the search, investigators seized several items, including suspected explosive devices.

The Parkville man faces multiple charges, including:

• Making/possessing explosive substances

• Conducting a bomb hoax

• Trafficking a drug of dependence

• Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person

• Possession of weapons

• Possession of proceeds of crime

• Theft of a motor vehicle

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 20.
