Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 29-year-old man from St Albans Park after an alleged police ramming and attempted carjacking on Tuesday, July 30.
At around 7:30 am, the man allegedly rammed a police vehicle on Mackey Street in North Geelong before fleeing the scene in a black Volkswagen Golf.
Fortunately, the police officers were unharmed, and the vehicle sustained only minor damage.
Police located the suspect in the Geelong CBD around 3 pm, where he attempted to flee on foot.
The man then allegedly tried to enter another vehicle on Gheringhap Street, where he was apprehended.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has been charged with multiple offenses, including:
Recklessly exposing an emergency worker to risk by driving
Damage to an emergency service vehicle by reckless driving
Failing to stop on police direction
Burglary
Theft
Going equipped for stealing
Possessing a controlled weapon
Possessing a drug of dependence
Negligently dealing with proceeds of crime
Criminal damage
Theft of a motor vehicle
Making a false document
Theft from a motor vehicle
Possessing a prohibited weapon
The man is scheduled to appear in Geelong Magistrates Court on July 31, 2024.
