Police were called to Raven Street in Geelong West at approximately 1:00 pm after receiving reports of an armed male wielding a crossbow inside a unit complex.

Subsequently, the street was cordoned off, and residents in nearby homes were instructed to stay indoors while police engaged in negotiations with the individual.

Both the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and the Dog Squad were deployed to secure the apartment block, and two ambulances were placed on standby in a nearby street.

The incident extended well into the evening before the CIRT team successfully forced entry to apprehend the individual.

The male was then transported to Geelong Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

Fortunately, no one else was present in the residence at the time, and there were no reported injuries.

Authorities are scheduled to conduct further interviews with the man today to gather additional information regarding the incident.
